As Mrs. Texas Earth 2021, Pam’s driving passion is working in animal conservation, habitat preservation and its relationship to the ongoing climate crisis. For the past five years, Pam has worked with the El Paso Zoological Society and currently serves as President of the Board of Directors. The 501c (3) non-profit is governed by a volunteer board that’s entirely supported by local donors. During her tenure she has incorporated social media platforms and unique branding strategies to set the charitable organization apart from the physical Zoo for purposes related to education and awareness.

The El Paso Zoo Society partners with the El Paso Zoo in efforts related to capital fundraising, operational support, membership, and volunteer services with a mission to develop engaging animal exhibits emphasizing conservation and appreciation for wildlife and healthy ecosystems. Since incorporation of their social media platforms, the society has grown its awareness and involvement, raising over $550k during Pam’s work in the community.

One of her initial projects with the Zoological Society involved working with El Paso’s Sumatran Orangutans, Ibu, Butch and Khaleesi. Their critically endangered species is covered under the SAFE initiative (Saving Animals From Extinction) which helps fund and support conservation efforts locally, nationally, and worldwide.

Pam’s recent focus has been raising awareness regarding deforestation brought about by the Palm Oil industry, leading to habitat destruction affecting orangutans and many other species. The main focus has been to educate the public on the power we have as consumers to fight animal extinction by avoiding the purchase of products manufactured with non-sustainable palm oil.

An additional project in collaboration with the Zoo Society has been the launch of the #everydayisearthday campaign. Pam has been reaching out to the public through social media platforms with her GoGreenStayClean series, releasing a weekly episode with ideas and tips to encourage people to practice a sustainable lifestyle. Videos include activities ranging from growing veggies from scraps, gardening, ecofriendly bird feeders and composting amongst many others. The objective is to raise awareness in the community about the ongoing climate crisis and ignite the desire to become active participants in the fight to save our beautiful planet and wildlife.

Pam’s latest project has been the incorporation of a climate change awareness curriculum for the zoological society’s Zoo Camp offered to children ages 6-10. Zoo Camp has been an ongoing effort to foster the love for nature, wildlife and conservation in younger generations. As well as understand the role zoo’s play in saving animals from extinction, conservation and species survival. Additionally, Pam has founded the Wild For Words Library for children attending zoo camp, providing them with the tools and resources they need to take positive actions and make the right choices in their everyday lives In the fight against climate change to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle.

Pam is absolutely thrilled to be recognized as an Ambassador for Trees for The Future for almost three years now. An amazing organization that promotes sustainable farming practices, training farmers in the Forest Garden approach. Changing their lives forever, rescuing them from poverty by implementing regenerative agriculture and at the same time, having a tremendous positive impact on the environment.

Our everyday choices and actions have the power to change the course of destruction to where we are currently headed, only together can we make a difference and rescue our beautiful planet.

Our beautiful planet is suffering and declining at astonishingly critical rates. With the climate crisis being one of the most urgent issues threatening our Planet, we need to come together and take immediate action. It is critical to ignite a sense of urgency and drive engagement from our communities. Being a recognized advocate on a global scale provides me with an opportunity to actively voice concerns in local communities and worldwide to promote and implement changes that conserve and protect our magnificent Planet Earth. My goal is to make a difference with an impact that reaches beyond a lifetime and that of my children’s. — Pam Agullo
